Last spring, Dr. Randy Dreger, instructor in the Personal Fitness Trainer program, was approached by members of the St. Albert Fire Department to train them for the Firefit Combat Challenge.
Often called the toughest two minutes in sport, the event has firefighters complete six gruelling tasks that mimic real-life scenarios in full gear. Dreger enlisted three of his students to design customized workouts and train with the firefighters.
The training paid off. In his national Combat Challenge debut, Jim Hill completed the course in an impressive one minute and 37 seconds – an improvement of 15 seconds from when he first began training with the NAIT team.
